South Asia stirred by the ongoing violence in Bangladesh, 440 dead

Dhaka / New Delhi, 7 August 2024 (Agency) : The violence that has been going on in Bangladesh for the last three weeks over reservation is not taking the name of stopping. In the latest incidents of violence, minorities and its religious places are reported to be targeted on a large scale. So far 440 people have been killed, and thousands have been injured.

In view of these incidents, there has been a stir in South Asian countries including India, Nepal and Pakistan. The Government of India gave information about the entire incidents in Parliament yesterday. In the all-party meeting on this issue, all the parties expressed their commitment to remain united. More than 4 and a half thousand kilometers of India's territory is connected to Bangladesh. In Bangladesh, 30 percent reservation was being given to the families of freedom fighters, which the Supreme Court has decided to reduce to 5 percent.

On the other hand, the Bangladesh army is trying to control the situation, but the protests of the agitated people are continuing in the capital Dhaka and other major cities. More than 100 people have died in various violent incidents after Sheikh Hasina left the country. Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina is reported to be staying at a safe place in India. She is going to move to another country soon. On the other hand, the President has intensified efforts to make the interim government smooth.

The protests of student organizations against reservation in the country are continuing. According to reports, police and army personnel are patrolling the streets. Due to this, it is being claimed that the situation is gradually coming under control. It has been told that schools have also been opened in Bangladesh after a long time. Actually, schools were closed due to the protests of students against the controversial reservation system in the country.

After the massive violence in Bangladesh on Monday, minorities and its religious institutions were targeted on a large scale on Tuesday. However, it is being claimed that the situation in Dhaka has been brought under control to a large extent. Public transport has started operating on the streets of Dhaka. Apart from this, shopkeepers have also started opening their shops on the streets. At the same time, government vehicles have also been seen going towards the offices.

About 109 people died during the violence on Monday. A total of 114 people died during the violence on Sunday. A total of 440 people have lost their lives till Monday due to the violence that started on July 16. Last month in July, 200 people died during student demonstrations in Bangladesh. Clashes broke out between protesters and supporters of the Awami League party on Sunday.

According to sources, 37 bodies were brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital between 11 am and 8 pm on Monday. Hospital sources said that 500 people injured in various incidents were brought there.

After Sheikh Hasina left the country, hundreds of people vandalized her residence. Apart from this, the protesters were also seen taking away the items present in Sheikh Hasina's house. Sheikh Hasina's private residence Sudha Sadan in Dhaka was destroyed by the protesters. Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister on Monday itself.

It is being told that Sheikh Hasina was going to London, but she is currently in hiding. In fact, the British government says that Sheikh Hasina is unlikely to get legal protection in London under any possible investigation.

British Foreign Minister David Lammy said in London that Bangladesh has witnessed tremendous violence for the past few weeks. He said that Bangladesh has seen a tragic loss of life and property amid unprecedented violence and the people of the country are entitled to a full and independent investigation led by the United Nations.

Sources said that Hasina's travel plans have been hampered and she may stay in India for the next few days. He also described the situation as dynamic and said that there is no definite way or clarity in this matter. LS.
