No security for women in the state: grieves BJP’s Gudur
Hyderabad, January 22: Bharatiya Janata Party state senior leader Gudur Narayana Reddy on Sunday expressed deep concern over the security breach in the residence of senior IAS officer Smita Sabarwal.
In a media statement he said that the intrusion of person into the residence of the senior IAS officer exposed the lacunae in the security to the women in the state. “If a person can enter into the senior IAS officer who is also the wife of senior IPS officer without fear shows the lapses in the security situation in the state and raises questions on a common woman in the state,” he said.
He also said that the incident points out the lack of governance in the state. There was no review on crimes against women though at least one case is reported every day.
Narayana Reddy said that a deputy tehasildar of Medchal district has entered into the house of IAS officer in the midnight and scared her. The officer has shown her grit and neutralized the efforts of the intruder. She has alerted the security personnel and has seen that the intruder was nabbed.
He said that according to the repots being produced by the Telangana Police the crime rate against women in Telangana has increased 3.8 per cent in 2022 as against the previous year.
He said that about 17,908 cases have been registered during 2022 as against the 17,253 cases in 2021. Out of the total cases of crime against women during 2022, 9,071 cases have been registered under dowry harassment, 4,964 cases have been registered under outraging of modesty, 2,126 cases under rape, 181 under murder, 126 under dowry death and 40 under dowry murder.
In Greater Hyderabad number of crimes against women increased to 7,578 in 2022 from 7,459 in 2021. Out of them 984 cases were registered under atrocities and 360 cases under kidnap.
The BJP leader said these figures suggest that the atrocities and crimes against the women were not abating even though the Telangana government claims that it has given paramount importance to women security.
He said that every day the news dailies have been reporting one or other crime or atrocity against women. Girl children under 5 years of age were also subjected to atrocities, he lamented.
He said that at several places the women were kidnapped, raped and murdered. Though the Disha case has put lot of focus on the crimes and atrocities against the women, there was no improvement in that area.
“If security breach takes place in the residence of most senior bueareaucrat in the state government takes place and male enters the residence without hindrance, what about the security of lonely women and girls in the state?” Guduru questioned.
He pointed the senior IAS officer was working in the office of the Chief Minister. “In such a case how the CM would guarantee the safety of women of the state?” he wanted to know.
