Modi is the most powerful and Tiwari is the most educated in Varanasi
Varanasi (RNI) Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency which is the most high profile seat of the country, the most powerful leader is Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the most educated candidate is independent Sanjay Kumar Tiwari. This time 7 candidates are in the fray from this area. 41 candidates had filed their nominations. Voting will be held here in the last phase of voting on June 1.
The last date for nomination in Varanasi was May 14. A total of 41 candidates had filed nominations, but out of these only 7 candidates are left. Congress has fielded Ajay Rai.
According to the Election Commission, among the valid nomination papers in Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is from BJP, Congress- Ajay Rai, BSP- Athar Jamal Lari, Apna Dal Kamerawadi- Gagan Prakash, Yug Tulsi Party- Koli Shetty Shivkumar, Independent- Sanjay Kumar Tiwari and Independent- Dinesh Kumar Yadav. Prime Minister Modi is trying his luck from here for the third time. He had won the elections of 2014 and 2019.
For the first time in the electoral history of Varanasi Lok Sabha seat, there are seven candidates in the fray. Before this, the maximum number of 47 candidates were in the election field in 1996 and the least in 1977 was 11 candidates.
On the other hand, a farmer leader from Tamil Nadu also wanted to contest elections from Varanasi, but he got a setback from the Supreme Court. The court refused to consider his petition to extend the deadline for filing nomination papers. The court termed the petition as an application filed to gain publicity.
