Leprosy is a serious problem in many states of India : Dr. Pankaj

New Delhi (RNI) Leprosy still remains a serious problem in many states of India, said  Sr.dermatologist Dr. Pritam Pankaj, here today.

Dr. Pankaj said this during an interview. The National Leprosy Eradication Program has had a great impact on the prevention of this disease, but in some areas of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Leprosy has not been completely eradicated. Migrationism is the main reason for the spread of this disease, he said.

Dr. Pankaj, a resident of Saharsa district of Bihar, said that earlier leprosy patients had to take medicine throughout their life. After that, medicine was prescribed for two years. Now by taking medicine regularly for one year, one can be free from this disease.

Dr. Pankaj said that there are five types of leprosy. Generally, nerves are affected in this disease. Due to this, disability can also occur. When the bacteria of leprosy reaches the respiratory tract, then people come in contact with such people. This disease spreads through visitors. In other situations, this disease does not spread through contact with each other.

He said that sometimes it has also been seen that even after taking the medicine for the prescribed period, the disease is not completely cured. Then the patients approach private doctors instead of government treatment. But its medicine is available in the private sector. Due to it not being easily available, they have to face difficulties. However, at present, one tablet of Rifamshil is capable of eliminating 99 percent of the bacteria causing leprosy, which is given to the patient once a month during the treatment.

In response to another question, Dr. Pankaj, an expert in laser technology, said that blemishes, spots, wrinkles, unwanted hair etc. can be removed from the face with this technology. Earlier, the facility of this technology was not easy in the country, but now it It is convenient. Especially in this era of beautification, it has become quite relevant.

When asked about the increasing problem of itching and red spots on the body during the winter season, Dr. Pankaj said that such complaints come in the winter season. To prevent this, people should take measures to avoid cold. This also gets cured on its own. Despite this, if there is any special problem, then medicine should be taken under the supervision of doctors. Those who have had such a problem once, may face such problem in the next winter season too. L.S.
