Hand cuffing of farmers a gift to them during decennial celebrations: BJP’s Gudur Narayana Reddy
Hyderabad, June 13: Bharatiya Janata Party state senior leader Gudur Narayana Reddy on Tuesday slammed the state government for brining the farmers with handcuffs to the court, while it has been celebrating decennial festival of formation of Telangana State.
“Are the farmers terrorists, rapists, bandits or extremists? What is the reason behind bringing them to the court with hand cuffs? Is it the way the government treats the farmers?” he wanted to know.
In a media statement, he strongly objected to the attitude of the police towards the farmers of Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district. He informed that the farmers who were arrested for May 30 incidents at Bhuvanagiri collectorate were brought to the court with cuffs on their hands on Tuesday.
He said that his heart has melted seeing the farmers with handcuffs. He said that tears have flown from his eyes when the farmers were escorted into the court with handcuffs.
He said that the government wanted to harass and torture the farmers with nonbailable cases. It also wants to threaten who ever wages agitation against the government. This is the gift being given to the farmers while celebrating decennial festival of formation of Telangana State.
He said that the farmers and their families would not pardon the government for this dictatorial attitude. They would send him packing in the coming days. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao would be taught a strong lesson. The CM would be brought to book.
The BJP leader stated that the police have foisted most draconian sections on the farmers and on him for the incidents that have taken place on May 30. He said that IPC 436 has been slapped on them which deal with activities like bombing, torching and blasting.
“Have the farmers torched the collectorate or the cars of leaders of Bharat Rashtra Samithi? Have they set any vehicle on fire? While they were peacefully protesting, the police have slapped most draconian sections on them,” he criticized.
He said that on May 30 farmers of Bhuvanagiri district were observing relay hunger strike at the collectorate. The municipal chairperson of Bhuvanagiri municipality has come and informed that MLA Pailla Sekhar Reddy would come and visit the camp.
But the MLA did not turn up until 5 pm. At the same time the minister and public representatives have been leaving the collectorate. As the BRS leaders did not bother to visit the camp, the farmers ran towards the car of minister Jagadish Reddy and tried to stop it. A group of farmers made a sit in at the other gate. Another group launched a sit on the road.
The MLA who has promised to visit the camp not only backed down on his word but has prevailed upon the police to foist the cases under draconian sections to intimidate and threaten the farmers.
“The police have also slapped IPC 436 section on me for expressing solidarity for the agitation against the preset alignment of the Regional Ring Road along with the other four farmers. I got anticipatory bail, whereas the farmers were sent to remand for 14 days,” he explained.
He said that the farmers were agitating against the changed alignment of the RRR which has been causing land acquirement for the fifth time in Rayagiri and other mandals. He informed that the farmers around Bhuvanagiri have ceded their lands to the government for construction of canals of Baswapur reservoir, HT towers, expansion of NH 163 and for development in YTDA area.
“Now it is the fifth time that the farmers have been forced to give their lands to the government. How far it is justifiable? How would the farmers live without land?” he questioned.
He made it clear that BJP would continue to fight on behalf of the farmers and stated that they would not back down till the first alignment was restored.
