Dasoju Request for Urgent Intervention to Stop Police Atrocities on Unemployed Youth and Journos
Hyderabad (RNI) Dasoju open appeal to the Honorable Governor of Telangana on July 10 Wednesday on Police’s atrocities on students he written to TG governor with deep concern regarding the ongoing repression and police brutality against the students of Osmania University and other parts of Telangana. The situation has escalated to alarming levels, necessitating his kind immediate intervention to uphold justice and protect the fundamental constitutional rights of the students and journalists involved.
Osmania University, a bastion of student activism and a symbol of Telangana's fight for statehood, is now witnessing a severe crackdown on its students. The current government, led by Shri Revanth Reddy, has displayed a blatant disregard for the democratic rights of the students who are protesting against unemployment and other critical issues. This repression is reminiscent of the dark days during the Telangana Agitation, a period marked by similar acts of state-sponsored brutality led by the then Andhra Rulers.
The students of Osmania University and other parts have been engaging in peaceful protests, including hunger strikes, to voice their legitimate demands for employment notifications and the postponement of some competitive exams. Instead of addressing these genuine concerns, the government of Telangana has resorted to using the police to suppress their voices.
It is deeply disturbing and distressing to see the students being attacked, abused, humiliated and detained illegally. These actions are not only illegal but also inhumane, reflecting a disturbing trend of state-sanctioned violence against the aggrieved and suppression of democratic rights.
It is even more outrageous that journalists covering the protests were manhandled, dragged by their collars, and detained by the police. This brazen attack on the press is a gross violation of their dignity and human rights. Such actions undermine the fundamental principle of freedom of the press, which is vital for our democracy. The recent attack on the Deccan Chronicle in Andhra Pradesh further exemplifies the growing arrogance of authority in the region. The government's response, or rather the lack of it, to the hunger strikes and peaceful protests by the students is equally appalling. Instead of engaging in democratic dialogue and addressing the issues raised by the students, Shri Revanth Reddy’s administration has chosen to remain mute spectators, effectively endorsing the police's brutal and heavy-handed tactics.
The arrogance of the current administration of Telangana is palpable, as it continues to ignore the plight of the unemployed youth and students. The use of police force to silence genuine demands and dissent is a clear indication of the government's dictatorial repressive tendencies. This situation calls for immediate and decisive action to protect the democratic rights of the students and ensure that justice is served.
I earnestly appeal to you, Sir, to intervene in this matter and advise the Honorable Chief Minister of Telangana to mend his ways, avoid instigating the police to suppress the genuine demands of the protesters, and engage in democratic dialogue with the students and unemployed youth to resolve their issues rather than behaving like a dictator.
Furthermore, I urge you to instruct the Telangana DGP and the CP Hyd City to ensure that the police exercise restraint to protect the constitutional rights of students and journalists and uphold their dignity. The freedom of speech, the right to peaceful protest, and the protection of human dignity are fundamental pillars of our democracy that must be upheld at all costs.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. He hoped for the governor prompt intervention to restore justice and protect the fundamental rights of the youth and the press.
