Conference on May 1 Against the Electric Policy of Auto-Taxi Unions

New Delhi (RNI) Delhi’s auto-taxi unions have organized a conference at Gandhi Shanti Pratishthan in the capital on the occasion of Labour Day, in protest against the government’s proposal to implement an electric vehicle policy under the auto-rickshaw replacement scheme. The conference will focus on ensuring employment opportunities for auto and taxi drivers under the employment guarantee framework.

During the conference, a resolution will be passed and a memorandum will be submitted to the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, and the Union and Delhi Transport Ministers, opposing what the unions have termed a “Tughlaqi decree.” The roadmap for a future movement will also be discussed.

This information was shared in a joint statement issued today by Sushil Jha, head of the Delhi unit of Azad Hind Auto Taxi Driver Union (Regd.), Alok Tiwari, president of the Delhi unit of Delhi Public Transport Union (Regd.), Ram Kumar Hind, general secretary of the Delhi unit of Auto Taxi Chalak Sena Union (Regd.), Kallu Bhaiya, head of the Delhi unit of Delhi Auto Taxi Gramin Seva Chalak Union (Regd.), and R.K. Rajput and Anand Chaudhary, general secretaries of Delhi Auto Tricycle Driver Union (Regd.).

The union leaders stated that the central and Delhi governments are attempting to destroy the livelihoods of auto and taxi drivers by introducing such a policy, which they will never accept. They further warned that if the government issues such an order, it will be strongly opposed.
