ARA-------------------------With the alleged connivance of officials of the Department of Transport, Bhojpur, thousands of three wheelers are plying of the roads of Bhojpur district with impunity with registration and thus gnawing at the government exchequer and at the same time, they are a danger for the lives of people and the police administration is unable to detect them even after these three wheelers commit crimes or accidents. In these circumstances, the drivers and the owners of these wheelers are getting plump as no action is being taken against these recalcitrant drivers and owners of the three wheelers. Besides, minors and underage drivers are driving the three wheelers right under the nose of the officials of the transport department and also by greasing palms of police personnel on traffic duty and this increases risk of accidents sooner or later.
More than 4,000 three-wheelers are registered in Bhojpur district whereas more than 3,000 autos are being driven on the roads without registration just right under the nose of the officials concerned and also with their connivance or allegedly by greasing palms of the officials and the police personnel. Despite, it is a matter of great surprise that no action is being taken such recalcitrant drivers and it put a big question mark before the efficacy of the officials of the transport department as well as police officials.
Bihar government has significantly reduced the registration fee for the three wheelers. About three months ago, the transport department used to charge Rs. 5650 as registration fee but this government has reduced it to Rs. 1150. It was said that this will promote public transport. In such a situation, there will be a lot of convenience for the passengers and the government will also get revenue. Even the vehicle owners will not prefer to other States to register their vehicles at less registration fee there. Despite the vehicle owners are not getting their vehicles registered and the vehicles are plying on the roads of Bhojpur district with impunity and that too right under the nose of the officials and the police.
The traffic police are not taking any action against the unregistered autos for plying their vehicles of the roads and also have turned blind eyes to the minor and underage drivers as they get undue advantages from them. As a rough estimate, police personnel earn thousands of rupees illegal money from the recalcitrant vehicle drivers in lieu of giving undue advantages to such drivers or letting them to go through the ‘No entry’ areas. The traffic police personnel also realized illegal amount from the minor or underage drives whereas senior officials of the transport department and the police pass through the roads daily but they allegedly turned a blind eyes towards all these anomalies and illegal activities.
Besides, shabby vehicles are also in vogue in Bhojpur district despite their registration lapse effecting the environment adversely. Pollution is increasing significantly in Ara and at the same time, there is a possibility of many other type of dangers arising from autos. Yet they are not monitored. Such shabby vehicles have not got insurance and this is against the rules.
When talked to the Traffic-in-Charge regarding all these irregularities, he said that action would be taken against the recalcitrant drivers and owners of vehicles. They will be warned through mike and will be asked to register, if not registered, their vehicles without delay otherwise penalty will be imposed on them.
