BUXAR------------------------As much as the Electricity Department is meeting the consumption of more than the prescribed electricity, it is sweating mote that than to get the electricity bills paid. At least Rs. 220.48 crore is owed to the consumers in Buxar district in which the maximum amount is owed to the government offices increasing the problem of the department more and more. During the summer, more power is consumed that the prescribed capacity but payment is less but the department has to make more efforts to meet the requirement. The government departments are the electricity highest but failed to pay the electricity bills and they are far ahead in the matter of arrears. Due to which the amount of arrears is increasing with each passing day.

In 2022, only 66 percent of the electricity consumption is paid to the department while 34 percent of last year’s arrears are also on the consumers. While on the one hand, most of the government offices are equipped with facilities, their electricity consumption has also increased may times but there is a lot of laxity in paying the bills.

If we talk about the biggest defaulters of the electricity bills of the city, the foremost is the Nagar Parishad on which 2.38 crore is outstanding. Along with this, Rs. 52.88 lakh is owed to the police department, Rs. 32.77 lakh to the Buxar Sadar Hospital, Rs. 10.87 lakh to the Buxar District Board, Rs. 7.47 lakh to the Municipal Building, Rs. 5.09 lakh to the Buxar Collectorate, Rs. 5 lakh to District Circuit House, Rs. 1.30lakh to the DRCC, Rs. 60 thousand to the Bihar State Food Corporation but the departments are least interested in paying the electricity bills due to which they owed crores of rupees.

A total of Rs. 220.48 crore is due on the consumers in five Sub-Divisions in Buxar district which the consumers are not interested in depositing the arrears. On the other hand, at the department level, action will be taken by taking strict stand towards the payment of these electricity bills. Rs. 342 lakh in the Sub-Division Buxar Urban, Rs. 1944 lakhs in the Buxar rural, Rs. 7018 lakhs in Itadhi, Rs. 3404 lakhs in Dumraon Sub-Division electricity bills are dues on consumers. Recovery has also decreased in the financial year 2023-2024, cent percent electricity bills are not being recovered. It we look at this session, the target of April 2023 is only 56 percent, 67 percent of target in May 2023, 67 percent of target in June 20233, and 76 percent of the target in July 2023 were collected so far of the total revenue.

Tez Pratap Singh, Executive Engineer, Electricity Department, Buxar said that letters are written to the different government offices for the payment of electricity bills every months. Along with this, the defaulters are being warned for the payment of bills so that the department can get the amount of electricity dues in Buxar district. Besides, efforts are being made to pay the outstanding bills to the common consumers as well.
