SASARAM--------------------------Community Health Centre (CHC), Karakat which was number one in Bihar, is facing the brunt of lack of facilities. Due to lack of medicines, patients are forced to take medicines from outside. Even the doctors do not treat patients better. The number of CHC Karakat doctors is 10 including 2 lady doctors.

The number of delivery in the Karakat CHC has dropped drastically and the main reason is the running of unregistered private clinic in the area. Urged by greed of commission, the pregnant ladies are lured and sent to the unregistered private clinics from the government hospital. As a result, the delivery rate has decreased significantly while the number of delivery rates increased in the unregistered private clinics reportedly with the cooperation of the government hospital.

As per the data received from the hospital, there were two and a half to three hundred deliveries per month in 2022 but in the year 2023 the number of delivery rates came down to 100 to 119.

Under the National Health Mission, the government has set a list of 213 medicines available in the CHC but only 45 medicines are available due to which the patients are forced to purchase medicines from outside. Female and male sterilization, safe abortion services, maternal and child safety, Vaccination, TB testing is done regularly.

Doctors at the CHC and patients, family members of the patients frequently have tiff over medicines and sometimes in case of unexpected incident or immediate treatment. Doctors at the Karakat CHC mostly refer the patients even in the minor accidents for treatment.

Dr. Rajeev Kumar said that due to lack of complete facilities, the patients are referred. Failure to refer can save the patient. But the crisis remains high and the family members do not want to take even a little risk and forced to refer the patients.

Patients Ajay Kumar, Sanjay Paswan, Rita Devi, Kalawati Devi, Sonu Kumar, Umesh Kumar, Kalawati Devi, Mala Devi said that when they came to the CHC to get medicines, they did not get the medicines. The doctors asked them to buy the medicines from a medical store outside. The patients said that the doctors knew about the availability of medicines at hospital despite they prescribe medicines forcing them to buy from outside.

Dr. Jamil Akhatar, in-charge CHC said that the number of delivery has dropped in the year 2023 and added that as far as non-availability of medicines is concerned, the patients are given medicines whatever the district administration made available. He said that vaccination, delivery check-up and other facilities are provided to patients regularly.
