POLICE MAN COMMITS SUICIDE WITH HIS OWN INSAS RIFLE

ARA (RNI) One police personnel posted in the security of the EVM on the campus of the Krishi Bhawan under Nawada police station commits suicide with his own service rifle in the late evening on March 30, 2024. The deceased was identified as Hemant Kumar of Mokama in Patna district who is to be married next month. Bhojpur DM Raj Kumar, SP Pramod Kumar Yadav, SDM Jyoti Nath Shahdeo along with other senior officials of the district rushed to the spot. Police recovered his INSAS rifle and blank cartridge from the spot. Police are investigating the matter. Reason behind the incident is still to be ascertained.

Three police personnel including Hemant Kumar were deputed at the warehouse where the EVMs were kept. One police man was on leave while other had gone to the market to buy vegetables. Only Hemant Kumar was on duty at the time of incidence. Hemant Kumar locked himself inside the room and committed suicide with his service INSAS rifle. When his friend returned with vegetables, he found the door of the room closed. He peeped through the window of the room and found Hemant Kumar lying in the pool of blood on the floor. He at once informed the senior officials at once.

Bhojpur SP Pramod Kumar Yadav said that the Nawada police station informed that body of a police man Hemant Kumar of Mokama in Patna district deputed in the security of the warehouse where EVMs were kept on the campus of the Krishi Bhawan under Nawada police station is lying on the floor and the room was locked from inside. The body was lying in the pool of blood and his INSAS rifle and a blank cartridge were also on the floor. He said that initial investigation reveals that he committed suicide with his own INSAS rifle. Police recovered the body and brought it to the Ara Sadar Hospital for postmortem and are also investigating the matter. The SP stated that further investigation and talk with his family members may reveal the cause behind the incident.

Hemant Kumar had joined the district police in the year 2018 and since November 2023, he was deputed in the security of a warehouse where EVMs are kept on the campus of Krishi Bhawan and since he was there.

Bhojpur SP stated that Hemant Kumar was to be married on April 30 this year. The police man deputed there along with Hemant Kumar was very sand and silent for the last three days but the reason of being sand is not known.
