ARA----------------------------The government has launched schemes for the convenience of poor patients with much hype and hoopla but the ground realities belied the tall claims and the situation is quite different at all the government hospitals including the Ara Sadar Hospital. The hapless patients are forced to purchase expensive medicines from outside as they are not being given prescribed medicines causing a lot of problems and they are also facing financial loss.

Ara Sadar Hospital is the largest hospital in Bhojpur district and receives a large number of patients every day. Around 700 patients come for treatment outdoors daily and many patients are admitted indoors. Most of the patients are given medicines and released from the outdoor. If medicines are not available after the arrival of so many patients, the announcement of the department is proving to be hollow.

Besides, costly machines at the Ara Sadar Hospital are not maintained properly. These machines are useless as the patients are referred frequently. The operation theatre opens only occasionally and as an exception, operations are carried out. Otherwise dust remains accumulated on the machines and also rusting and the officials concerned turn away from their responsibility.

Almost all the doctors at the Ara Sadar Hospital prescribe some medicines which are available in the shops outside and the hapless patients have no option but to purchase them at high rate. The poor patients somehow manage money and take their kin to the Ara Sadar Hospital for treatment but here they meet with different situation. They have to take loan for medicines.

The emergency wards of the Ara Sadar Hospital were modernized with modern machinery at a cost of Rs. 56 lakh and Rs 5 lakh was spent on painting and it was handed over in May 2022 but the condition of the emergency ward deteriorated since August. It is beyond comprehension as to what will be the condition of the patients if the machine gets rusted, AC is not operational and other equipment are in working condition.

The government has instructed, information about the stock of medicines is to be given daily through newsletters whereas this does not happen at the Ara Sadar Hospital. Only one to two or maximum three medicines are given to the patients and remaining medicines are to be brought from outside shops. The government has also instructed to keep stock of 335 medicines for Out Door Patients whereas 226 medicines are to be kept for the indoor patients but this is not done by the Ara Sadar Hospital management. Doctors prescribed such medicines which are available only from outside medicine shops and the patients are asked to buy t 50% medicines from outside.

Civil Surgeon, Dr. Suresh Prasad Singh says that efforts are made to give as much medicines as is available to the patient. Under compulsion, the medicines which are not in the stock of the hospital are asked to buy them from outside.
