ARA---------------------------Over four dozen persons fell ill under Ara town and Nawada police stations area after eating ‘jalebi’ or funnel cake in the late evening on November 6, 2024. They were admitted to the Ara Sadar Hospital where they said to be out of danger.
People bought the funnel cake made of jiggery from a makeshift sweetmeat shop near Ramana Maidan under Ara town police station in the late evening and after eating it, over 50 persons complained giddiness, stomachache, vomiting and loose motion within half an hour and were admitted to the Ara Sadar Hospital. The ailing persons were identified as Vishal Singh, Vijay Prakash Singh, Shubham Singh, Deepak Singh, Shivam Kumar, Ranjit Kumar, Bhivansh Singh, Vikku Kumar Singh, Bholu Kumar of Maruti Nagar, Prem Kumar Singh, Ayushi Kumari, Golu Kumar of Majhaua under Ara town police station, Rubi Devi, Shatrughn Tiwari, Shanti Kuer, Ankit Dubey, Sunita Devi, Appu Dubey and others of Nawada locality under Nawada police station in Bhojpur district.
Vikku Kumar Singh of Maruti Nagar said that he bought jalebi or funnel cake from a makeshift sweetmeat shop near Ramana Maidan under Ara town police station and went to his house where all members of the family relished the jalebi but within half an hour after eating the jalebi, they complained stomachache, vomiting, giddiness and loose motion. All of them were rushed to the Ara Sadar Hospital. Gautam Kumar of Maruti Nagar said that they were working at the Baharbatara Chhath Ghat at Maruti Nagar. In the evening, jalebi was brought from the said sweetmeat shop and within half an hour after eating it, they met the same fate and were admitted to the Ara Sadar Hospital.
Doctor Akhilesh Kumar, attending the ailing persons at the emergency wards of Ara Sadar Hospital said that over 50 persons were affected with the jalebi who complained giddiness, vomiting, loose motion and stomachache. First aid was provided to all of them and they are now out of danger. He said perhaps some ingredients of the jalebi were rotten or spurious and so people who ate the jalebi fell ill.
Meanwhile, the Bhojpur district swung into action and uprooted the makeshift sweetmeat shop and is also investigating the matter.
