With the main objective of getting fist hand information about the Geographical and Ecological importance of Wetland and to increase awareness among the students about their conservation, the Post Graduate Department of Geography, Maharaja College, Ara, organized a one day educational trip to the Suhiya Bhangar Wetland located in Shahpur block of Bhojpur district to mark the World Wetland Day.

ARA---------------------------With the main objective of getting fist hand information about the Geographical and Ecological importance of Wetland and to increase awareness among the students about their conservation, the Post Graduate Department of Geography, Maharaja College, Ara, organized a one day educational trip to the Suhiya Bhangar Wetland located in Shahpur block of Bhojpur district to mark the World Wetland Day.
Speaking on the occasion, Head of the Department, Prof. Sanjay Kumar explained the meaning of wetlands and their importance. He said that the wetlands play an important role in biodiversity conservation, groundwater recharge and maintaining climate balance. Simultaneously, he discussed the challenges faced by the wetlands like urbanization, pollution and encroachment and stressed the need of their conservation.
Highlighting the importance of educational travel in geographical studies, Dr. Dipika Shekhar Singh said that experimental knowledge makes theoretical studies more effective and helps students to understand environmental and geographical concepts better.
Dr. Arvind Kumar Singh, Dr. Ravi Shankar Tiwari and Ajit Singh also participated and shared their views on the role of wetlands in local ecosystem, water security and sustainable development. They also said that conservation of wetlands is extremely important for the survival of local flora and fauna.
Students and teachers who participated in this educational tour said that this educational trip proved to be a practical and informative experience for the students which gave them an opportunity to understand the biodiversity of wetlands, their ecological importance and the challenges associated with them. The Head of the Department, Post Graduate, Department of Geography said that the department will continue to organize such educational programmes in future too to promote environmental awareness and conservation efforts. Students and teachers took pledge to spread awareness and take active steps towards wetlands conservation.
