ARA, (RNI) Under Lohia Swachchh Bharat Mission, mobile toilets were purchased in Koilwar Nagar Panchayat but due to negligence of the Nagar Panchayat, the purpose of the purchased mobile toilets is not being fulfilled and these mobile toilets have become dumping places of garbage. The mobile toilets were also purchased so that it could be sent to other big events like wedding so that dirt can be prevented from spreading.

These mobile toilets were kept in various wards to protect them from filth but now they themselves are lying amidst filth. Resentment prevails among the residents of the area regarding this. The aim of the government was to provide the facility of mobile toilets in the densely populated areas around the jeep stand and vegetable market where there are no community toilets so that people coming to the market do not need to defecate in the open but due to the lax polity of the officials of the Nagar Panchayat, people are forced to defecate in the open on the banks of the river Sone and as a result the banks of the river are filled with filth.

About four years ago, with the aim of making the Koilwar Nagar Panchayat Open Defecation Free (ODF), 10 mobile toilets were purchased from James Portal under the Lohia Swachchh Bharat Mission which were kept at various places in different wards with the promise that people who defecate in the open will use them. Rickshaw pullers, labourers or those who did not have toilets in their houses, expressed great happiness but since four years have passed but no arrangement for water was made in them and neither could the mobile toilets be used in any ward. All are lying idle. Only two toilets are in use. Even the Swachchh Bharat Mission personnel do not know where the rest are.

These mobile toilets are lying at various places in the wards on the roadside despite having tanks no arrangement for water was made. They were taken to various places and thrown away which is now falling into disrepair. Thieves took away all the four wheels of the mobile toilet lying near Goraya Ghat but the office did not even register an FIR in this regard.

Four years ago, 11 mobile toilets were purchased in Koilwar Nagar Panchayat for an amount of Rs. 70.29lakh. The cost of a mobile toilet is said to be Rs.6.39 lakh. These mobile toilets are fitted with seats five each for men and women separately but the residents of the area could not get the benefit for which lakh of rupees were spent. Despite the Koilwar Nagar Panchayat purchased two mobile toilets in the financial year of 2017-2018 and 10 mobile toilets were purchased in the financial year of 2019-2020.

Chief Councilor, Nagar Panchayat, Koilwar Sartaz Azam said that instructions have been given to the workers to repair all the damaged mobile toilets so that they can be made fir for use

On the other hand, residents of the area said that members of the Nagar Panchayat and officials are interested only in commission and they have nothing to do with the problem of the people though the government is providing all facilities.
