GROUND WATER LEVEL GONE DOWN IN BHOJPUR DISTRICT
Ground water level of Bhojpur district has gone down upto 25 feet due to rising temperature and indiscriminate digging of sand from the bed of river Sone and is posing a threat to lives of people. As a result, hundreds of hand pumps have gone dry but the officials are indifferent towards the problems and residents of the area are left on the mercy of god. Normally the ground water level of Bhojpur district is 28 feet.
Ara, 9 June 2023, (RNI): Ground water level of Bhojpur district has gone down upto 25 feet due to rising temperature and indiscriminate digging of sand from the bed of river Sone and is posing a threat to lives of people. As a result, hundreds of hand pumps have gone dry but the officials are indifferent towards the problems and residents of the area are left on the mercy of god. Normally the ground water level of Bhojpur district is 28 feet.
Owing to continuous heat wave that lashed Bhojpur district for the last 20 days, hand pumps have gone dry and the ground water level went down. People of Bhojpur district facing a lot of problems as they have to bring drinking water covering a long distance. Sritola, Bahiro of Ara block, Narayanpur of Agiaw block, Moap Kala of Tarai block, over half a dozen villages such as Banshdihari, Khaira, Sahar, Guljarpur, korondihari of Sahar block, over one dozen villages including Parbatpur village of Piro block, Jungle Mahal, Harigaon of Jagdishpur block, Daulatpur, Rajapur, Jamalpur, Narayanpur of Koelwar block, Kuyiya, Ramshahar, Ekauna, Sirisiya, of Badahara block are most affected where almost all the hand pumps have become non-operational.
The ground water level in Ara block has gone 20.06feet, in Agiaw is 24.11 feet, in Badahara 25.01 feet, in Bihia 23.08 feet, in Charpokhari 19.04 feet, in Piro 18.01 feet, in Gadhani 19.01 feet, in Jagdishpur 21.08 feet, in Koelwar 28.05 feet, in Sahar 19.10 feet, in Sandesh 19.10 feet, in Shahpur 20.08 feet, in Tarari 18.03 feet, in Udwantnagar 19.07 feet. On an average the ground water lever in Bhojpur district is 20.08 feet.
The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) had launched hand pumps repairing campaign in March this year but it failed to achieve the goal and most the hand pumps are still non-functional and the officials of the district are still insensitive towards this threat. Villagers said that the repairing works of the hand pumps were done on paper only and thus lakhs of rupees were embezzled in the name of repairing.
