ARA----------------------------Sand mafias are very much acting in Bhojpur district and they are allegedly hand in glove with the officials of the district. Illegal sand mining is going on with impunity right under the nose of the officials and no action is being taken against them despite giving information. Though, several firings and even murders have taken place. Still the Bhojpur administration is not cracking down on the sand mafias. Even green trees are being cut down continuously to reach the sand ghats. Complaints have been made to the department but no action is taken so far. As a result, their morale is very high. Besides, whether there is talk of liquor mafias in Bhojpur district or cutting of green trees or illegal sand mining, no action is taken even after giving information about it to the officials of the concerned departments.

The villagers informed the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) on October 18, 2023 at about 5.25pm that huge trees are being cut by the anti-social elements on the bank of the river Sone near Andhari village of Sahar block in Bhojpur district but no action was taken though he assured to take action after investigation within half an hour and when asked around 7pm, he did not receive the call. At the same time, the villagers informed the Superintendent of Police, Bhojpur about illegal sand mining and looting and construction of a road at the same place on the bank of river Sone. The SP talked about giving instructions to the concerned police station, yet not action was taken in this regard.

Villagers Ram Jee Singh, Jagdish Prasad, Tarun Kumar and others said that assurance is just a hoax and no action taken anywhere. The work is done to mislead people. No rules are followed and the government departments are centre of large scale corruption. One can get one’s work done by greasing palms of the clerks and officials.  They said that everything is happening openly. If there is money, anything is possible and so complaints are no meaning.

Illegal mining and carrying of sand is going on with the connivance of the officials of the district and only assurance is given regarding the complaints and no action ever takes place. The matter is not only about the illegal sand mining or liquor sale, this is the situation of the administrative department in any work. The villagers informed the Chauri police station, Piro Deputy Superintendent of Police and the Bhojpur Superintendent of Police about the carrying of sand from the river Sone and liquor on trucks but no action was taken. The administrative nexus with the sand and liquor mafias can be understood easily with the inactiveness of the officials despite having all information about illegal business. Even the complaints on complaint number against the sale of liquor but all in vain.  It was said that the police take action against those who allegedly do not grease their palms.

Bhojpur SP Pramod Kumar Yadav said that such a complaint has been received. It will be investigated and action will be taken against the culprits. He added that continuous action has been taken against illegal sand mining and transportation, yet all aspects will be investigated.
