ARA---------------------------Owning to continuous rains since last two days in Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand, the water level of the rivers Ganga and Sone along with their tributaries is rising very rapidly. As a result fear of flood is looming large in Buxar and Bhojpur districts.

The water level of the river Ganga is increasing at the rate of 5 centimeters per hour due to which the stairs of Ramrekha Ghat at Buxar is submerged in water and if this speed continues, the flood water of the river Ganga will soon enter the marriage hall, though the water level is still below the danger mark.

The water released into the river Sone from the Indrapuri Dam has reached Koelwar in the evening in August 5, 2024 due to which the water level of the river Sone was at the highest flow of this year at 54.300 meters however, within an hour the water level started receding on Tuesday and the river is flowing three meter below the danger mark, informed the Central Commission Office located at Koelwar. The employee present in the office said that the increase in the flow of the river Sone water was being recorded since Monday morning and by the afternoon it started increasing and it kept increasing continuously till the midnight of Monday and Tuesday though after an hour, the water started receding and till the evening on Tuesday, the speed of receding of water was recorded at 10 centimeter per hour and the level of the Sone river was 52.66 meters which was three meters below the danger mark and is continuously decreasing. It may be noted here that the warning level of the river Sone at Koelwar is 54.52 meters while the danger level is 55.52 meters.

It is being said that so much water has come in the river Sone after eight years near Koelwar. Rescue operation of farmers trapped at Sone Tola due to flood in the Sone is going on. CO said that teams of the NDRF have been pressed into operation and they have rescued 18 farmers from Bhadsa, Saraiya Tola so far though a large number of farmers are still stranded. It is feared that the water level of the river Sone will further increase and may inundate several areas. Some farmers have drowned in the flood and a large number of cattle have also been washed away in the flood water. The CO said that rescue of farmers is a herculean task.
