FORMER BJP MLA ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH SASARAM DISTURBANCE

Sasaram, 30 April 2023, (RNI): Rohtas police arrested two persons including the former BJP MLA, Jawahar Prasad in execution of arrest order issued from the Sasaram Civil Court against them in connection with brick batting and firing during Ram Navami procession on March 31, 2023. The person who was arrested is Shah Nawaz Alam alias Lakhani.

Rohtas SP Vinit Kumar said that two groups had clashed on March 31, 2023 one day after the Ram Navami that had taken a violent turn in which one person was killed. He said at least 64 persons of both the groups have so far been arrested while two persons surrendered in the court though police are trying to paste ‘Ishtehar’ (proclamation notice) on a dozen of persons. Police are also conducting raids to arrest 38 warrantees.

In the press release, the SP said that two groups clashed, brick bat and exploded bomb at Sasaram in Rohtas district on March 31, 2023 after the Ram Navami procession and after which internet service was banned for about eight in the area. The SP further said that the police arrested Jawahar Prasasd, former BJP MLA from Sasaram assembly constituency from his house at Lashkarigan locality and Md Shah Nawaz Alam alias Lakhani from Madar Darwaza locality in Sasaram after the court order.

On the other hand, arrest of BJP MLA created ripples in the BJP circle. A BJP leader Rajendra Singh blamed the Bihar government and the district administration saying it was not right to arrest the person who was trying to calm down the rioters and added that the BJP would launch agitation against the arrest. Trivikram Singh said that arrest of former MLA from his house in the late night was not right. He said that Jawahir Prasad was following and helping the police in controlling the riot and was trying to establish peace in the area and the district administration implicated and arrested him and it was just an act of revenge.

Wife of the former MLA said that the police came at about midnight, knocked the door and asked about Jawahr Prasad and his son Santosh Kumar. As Santosh Kumar was not there, the police took Jawahar Prasad with them without information.
