Ara, 30 April 2023, (RNI): After long waiting, a six lane road bridge across the river Sone connection Bhojpur and Patna parallel to the old road and train Abdul Bari Bridge was constructed but the existence of this new Bridge is at stake due to indiscriminate excavation of sand near its pillars with impunity right under the nose of the Bhojpur district administration. Besides, hundreds of trucks overloaded with sand stranded on the bridge on one hand while on other hand, the sand mafias dig sand from near the prohibited areas near the pillars of the Bridge posing danger to its existence but the Mines Department and the Bhojpur district administration have turned deaf ears to this danger. The reason behind it is best known to them.

Hundreds of overloaded Trucks and Tractors from Patna district to Chhapara via Bhojpur district stranded on the Bridge for hours together and thus created dead load on the Bridge posting threat to its existence. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) wrote letter to the senior officials of the Patna and Bhojpur district administration on January 10, 2023 demanding immediate ban on plying to sand laden vehicles through the bridge but both the district administrations have not taken any action in this regard and plying to sand laden trucks and tractors are going on as ever.

On the other hand, the sand mafias are indulged in illegal mining of sand around the prohibited areas near the pillars of the bridge and the sand is carried in thousands of tractor from there. Big ditches have appeared near the pillars due to illegal digging of sand near the pillars. As a result, areas near the pillars of the bridge have become hollow making them weak and also gnawing at the exchequer of the State and all these illegal activities are going on right under the nose of Patna and Bhojpur district administrations and that too during day hours but the officials have turned a Nelson’s eye towards it. On some occasion, Bhojpur district administration conducted raids and seized overloaded trucks tractors but never bother to check illegal mining of sands.
