BUXAR------------------------Buxar of Bihar is famous for its religious and historical importance all over the world but people are calling it by the nickname of ‘Garbage City.’

Every year, the Buxar Municipal Council spend Rs. 9.84 crore of people’s hard earned money for the cleaning of 42 wards of the town but defying the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s ambitious programme of ‘Jal Jeevan Hariyali’ scheme and dump filth and garbage back into the town’s water sources. The garbage of Buxar Municipal Council area in being collected by an NGO and is being dumped around bypass canal, Syndicate canal, Law College canal, Thora river, Historical Fort Ground and District Guest House. It is surprising that almost all the officials of the district pass through the route but everyone has maintained silence.

A local resident of the area Gopal Trivedi said that garbage is being dumped in the water sources with the tacit consent and connivance of the senior officers of the district. What kind of governance is there in this district that by spending about Rs. 82 lakh per month, they are dumping the garbage in the city itself. The day is not far when people will call Buxar as ‘Garbage City’ and the city council as ‘Hell Council.’

Under the Seven Resolution, all the water sources are being renovated by the Bihar government by spending crores of rupees. At the same time, the garbage is being dumped by the NGO in the water resources right under the nose of the district administration officer who are keeping silence in this regard due to which the residents of area are raising questions on the working and efficacy of the officials of the district administration.

One Nematulla Faridi, husband of the Chairman, Buxar Municipal Council said that Rs. 82 lakh is being spent every month in cleaning the city but due to lack of dumping zone, the garbage is forced to be dumped on roadside. He said that dumping zone is expected to be arranged in two months after which all the waste will be picked up and rearranged there.
