ELDERLY PERSON CRUSHED TO DEATH

ARA (RNI) Speeding truck knocked down an elderly person and killed him near Bahiyara Sand Ghat onn Koelwar-Chandi main road under Chandi police station in Bhojpur district. The deceased was identified as Md Sakir 75 son of late Surjali Mian of Bahiyara village under Chandi police station. After the incident, irate villagers went on rampage and blocked the Koelwar-Chandi main road with the body of the deceased. They burnt tyres on road and raised slogans against the district administration. They were demanding immediate ban on plying of sand laden vehicles on the road. The blockade could be lifted only after positive response of the SHO Chandi police station. Later the police recovered the body and brought it to the Ara Sadar Hospital for postmortem. The villagers also chased and caught the fleeing truck along with the driver and handed over to police.

The agitating villagers said that the deceased Md Sakir was going to his house after taking potatoes from his field. When he was crossing the road near Bahiyara village on Koelwar-Chandi main road, a sand laden truck crushed him to death in its bid to overtake. The deceased was carried away by the truck. The villagers further said that due to Sand Ghat near the incident ghat, the Koelwar-Chandi main road was jammed. The truck driver tried to enter the sand ghat overtaking another truck trapped in the jam. In its bid to overtake, the truck crushed Md. Sakir who was crossing the road. When the villagers made much hue and cry, the driver of the truck stopped the truck. The villagers could free Md Sakir and rushed him to the Ara Sadar Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital. Taking advantage of the melee, the driver tried to escape from the scene but the villagers chased and caught him with the truck and handed over to the police.
