CPI-ML PERFORMANCE IN THE LOK SABHA ELECTION WAS EXCELLENT

ARA (RNI) The performance of the Communist Party of India—Marxist-Leninist (Liberation), main ally of the INDIA Alliance in the just concluded Parliamentary Election remained excellent. After 35 years, CPI-ML won two seats in the general election.

Earlier in 1989, Rameshwar Prasad had the party the path to the Parliament for the first time by winning the Ara seat. At that time, he had won as a candidate of the Indian People’s Front (IPF) and the name of the IPF changed at CPI-ML.

In this election, the CPI-ML had got three seats in seat sharing from the INDIA Alliance that included Ara, Karakt and Nalanda parliamentary seats. Sudama Prasad from Ara and Raja Ram Singh from Karakat registered historical victory. Both have defeated their strong rivals. In Ara, Sudama Prasad defeated the former Union Minister and former IAS, Raj Kumar Singh and won the Ara seat while in Karakat, Raja Ram Singh won the seat by defeating the former Union Minister Upendra Kushwaha and Bhojpuri film star, Pawan Singh.

This historic victory is also special for the CPI-ML because in the last two and half a decades, the Left parties had not won any election in the Lok Sabha in Bihar. In the 1999 elections, CPI(M) candidate Subodh Rai had got the last victory from Bhagalpur seat and since the left parties have been yearning for victory in the Lok Sabha elections. In this election, CPI-ML has also tried to re-establish leftist politics in Bihar. However, the CPI-ML was also expected to win from the Nalanda Parliamentary seat from where its candidate Sandeep Saurabh was in the fray with full strength but did not get success here. Lack of coordination among the leaders of the INDIA Alliance on Nalanda seat is also considered to be an important reason for the defeat otherwise by winning the Nalanda seat, the CPI-ML had left no stone unturned to put it in the bag of the INDIA Alliance. However, the candidate of the CPI-ML from Nalanda seat is at the second position.
