ARA HOUSE IS AN EPITOME OF INDIAN FREEDOM MOVEMENT
A two storeyed historic Ara House on the campus of local Maharaja College was constructed during the British rule as a ball room for the English. In 1857 when the brave Zamindar of Jagdishpur Veer Babu Kuer Singh raised the alarm against the British rule, the soldiers played a pivotal role in the mass movement in which 200 patriotic soldiers from Danapur Cantonment revolted and reached Ara. The British officers including the erstwhile District Magistrate of Shahabad, W. C Bake along with soldiers of 45 Sikh Regiment took shelter at the Ara House on July 27, 1857for the safety of their lives and property. About 10,000 freedom fighters along with rebel soldiers of Danapur Cantonment surrounded the Ara House till August 2, 1857.

After independence, the Ara House gained the name of symbol of National Movement and was renovated with an estimated cost of Rs. 42.5 lakh. It is said that there is a tunnel from Ara House to Jagdishpur and during the British rule, Babu Kuer Singh others used to pass through this tunnel, though the tunnel is said to be collapsed at present but all this is hearsay. Years ago when it was in a dilapidated condition, many voices were raised for its proper respect and after which it was renovated and today it looks very beautiful.
