AMC FAILED TO PROVIDE BASIC SANITATION DESPITE HAVING A BUDGET OF Rs. 5 BILLION
Though the current financial budge of the Ara Municipal Corporation (AMC) was passed to the tune of Rs. 5 billion, various types of cleaning resources have been purchased and over 400 unskilled sanitation workers are employed, the sanitation situation of Ara has become bad to worse and the activities of the AMC are either dictatorial or negligent as it has nothing to do with the problems of people.
ARA (RNI) Though the current financial budge of the Ara Municipal Corporation (AMC) was passed to the tune of Rs. 5 billion, various types of cleaning resources have been purchased and over 400 unskilled sanitation workers are employed, the sanitation situation of Ara has become bad to worse and the activities of the AMC are either dictatorial or negligent as it has nothing to do with the problems of people.
A hume pipe drain of about 15 feet to 20 feet near Chandawa Mor of Ara has been laid from east to west direction of the road for the smooth flow of drain water but this drain gets clogged every month while its cleaning takes more than 10 days. Now the question is that even after all these resources, the AMC has to struggle to clean even a small drain and takes more than 10 days to clean it. This shows the working culture of the AMC and the working system can be gauged.
The sanitation workers and the sanitation supervisor say that the drain is broken in the middle due to which soil gets filled and the problem persists for the last six months. In such a situation, why is the AMC not taking effective action in this regard? Is the AMC waiting for the anger of the residents of the area to boil and least interested in providing any facility to them? Does the AMC want the mosquitoes kept breeding in the stagnant water of the drain? When the drain is broken in the middle, as to why is it not being repaired for the last six months? Or the AMC has incapable to repair one drain. If it is so, what is the meaning of the budgets of billions of rupees.
The AMC workers say that demotion of the drain will have to be done with the JCB and it would create a lot of problems for the residents. On the other hand, people said that the AMC is more interested in getting money than to provide facilities to people. This is a serious question and a subject to think about it. After all, the residents are paying lakhs of rupees as tax to the AMC without getting any basic facility.
The AMC workers are not negligent to their duty but are interested in making bills rather. Bills are made for the number of days spends in cleaning the drains even if the residents of the area remain troubled. The drain is continuously blocked but the insensitivity of the AMC has crossed the limits.
When contacted, Municipal Commissioner, AMC Niroj Kumar Bhagat said that it is a serious matter and will be inquired into. He added that it should not take so much time to clean a drain and added that action will be taken against the guilty.
