Ara, 6 April 2023, (RNI): Additional District and Session Judge VIII, Ara Civil Court, Birendra Chaubey awarded capital punishment to Lambu Sharma and rigorous life imprisonment to Akhilesh Upadhyaya after completing legal process at the direction of Patna High Court  in connection with bomb blast on the campus of Ara Civil Court on January 23, 2015.

Public Prosecutor, Nageshwar Dubey said that a bomb was blast on the campus of Ara Civil Court on January 23, 2015 to get a dreaded criminal freed when he along with other prisoners was going to the court for attendance in which a constable Amit Kumar and the bomb carrier Nagina Devi were killed while over a dozen were injured. After the bomb blast, Lambu Sharma and Akhilesh Upadhyaya fled away from the police custody.

The then ADJ III Tribuwan Yadav had awarded capital punishment to Lambu Sharma and rigorous life imprisonment to Akhilesh Upadhyaya on August 20, 2019 but Lambu Sharma appealed in the Patna High Court against the order. The Patna High Court during hearing found some lacking in the legal process and ordered the lower court complete the legal process and returned the case to the lower court. The lower court completed the legal process and maintained the capital punishment to Lambu Sharma and rigorous life imprisonment to Akhilesh Upadhyaya.
