Buxar District and Session Judge Anjani Kumar Singh awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment to brother-in-law (devar) and the father-in-law in connection with murder of a married woman but acquitted the husband.

Buxar, 20 April 2023, (RNI): Buxar District and Session Judge Anjani Kumar Singh awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment to brother-in-law (devar) and the father-in-law in connection with murder of a married woman but acquitted the husband.

Additional Public Prosecutor, Gopal Jee Sharma said that Kanchan Devi of Dahibar village under Industrial police station was married to Mahesh Seth of Ekrasi village under Bagengola police station in Buxar district on April 17, 2015. Since the in-laws tortured her merely for a gold chain. In the year 2015, it was said that Kanchan Devi committed suicide in her room. The family members of the deceased lodged a named FIR with the police against the husband Mahesh Seth alias Rajesh Seth, mother-in-law Sunita Devi, father-in-law Triloki Seth and the brother-in-law (devaar) Suraj alias Toofan Seth in-laws in connection with murder of Kanchan Devi for dowry. The mother-in-law Sunita died during pendency of suit.

Hearing both the parties, the DJ awarded rigorous seven years imprisonment to the father-in-law Triloki Seth and the brother-in-law Suraj alias Toofan Seth but acquitted the husband Mahesh Seth alias Rajesh Seth as he was in Delhi at the time of incident.
